The Kingdom of Oldtown was ruled by the Hightowers since Uthor of the High Tower, and then was ruled by King Otto ll Hightower and his many children, the King Jon of Highgarden wanted to envelop all of the Reach and wanted the Hightowers to join him and his kingdom, so seven years before the war, he sent a message along with gifts offering King Otto's son and heir Prince Rolland the "Ship Breaker", his youngest daughter, Princess Mariah Gardener and his second son Prince Mern "The Yellow Hand" and offices,titles,gold,silver and a place by his side and on his council in exchange the Hightowers would bend the keen. Tensions between the Kingdom of Highgarden and the Kingdom of Oldtown for a while after the Andal Invasion, the Gardener's had taken all of the Reach, north of Highgarden all except the Kingdom of Oldtown. The Battle of Black Dawn was the first battle in the War of the Garden and the Tower, it is one of the most famous battles in the Reach and is described by the book, "All men are brothers", by the "Sellsword Scholar", Arthgen the Scroll Reader.
